A 35-year-old farmer named Mr. Saleh Maikudi from the Bula people group in Gombe State has made a shocking declaration.
He unveiled that he makes over N7 million yearly from developing tomatoes and peppers, as per NAN.
In a meeting with the News Organization of Nigeria, Maikudi shared that he became rich through vegetable cultivation.
He noticed that his interest in tomato and pepper cultivation has been well taken care of. In 2023, he spent more than N1.5 million on 30 hectares of farmland.
“In 2023, I made N7 million from cultivating tomato and pepper.
“I only spent N1.5 million as the total cost of preparing and planting the vegetables.
“I cultivated tomato, bell pepper (Tatashe), chili pepper, Cayenne pepper (shombo) and Scotch bonnet (hot pepper) on my farmland.”
Maikudi said he grows 30 hectares of vegetables every year.
The rancher expressed that in the current wet season, ranchers had begun harvesting, and off-takers had been coming to their local area to purchase the wares to supply to different conditions of the country.
He said the year’s precipitation, which he portrayed as moderate, was adequate for his vegetables to develop and that his tomato and pepper got along admirably.
“If the market is good this year, I am expecting nothing less than N10 million because my vegetables really did well.’’
