Bolanle Austin-Peters, a film maker, has uncovered the reason for highlighting Nollywood stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham in her most recent film, ‘House of Ga’a.’
Until the pair appeared in House of Ga’a, they had not acted in the same film for a long due to claimed differences. Their involvement in “House of Ga’a” has aroused a lot of interest among fans, who are excited to see the two on screen together in the Netflix movie.
“I cast based on your ability to deliver; I don’t cast on your fame. Coincidentally, all of them brought their fame to the table. As you can see, every single person in that movie was just perfect for the role they played,” said Bolanle Austin Peters.Austen Peters also emphasised the importance of telling the African story through movies in its raw form.
“If you’re talking about local culture, I think we are in a better position to tell our own stories, foreigners can’t do that for us. Anytime we try to borrow their culture, you will notice that we fall short because we are borrowing what is not ours. But when we talk about who we are, nobody can talk about your home better than you.“So what we are doing now is showcasing the best of African culture. There are lots of Africans in the diaspora who have travelled all over the world and are yearning for something that will tie them back to the motherland. I don’t think we can do anything better than to start focusing more on telling our story to the world, and I think the world is waiting for Nigerians to do that.”
