Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, was born on 16 July 1990 in Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos. The big moves came one after the other. His albums include Superstar (2011), Ayo (2014), Sounds from the Other Side (2017) and Made in Lagos (2020). “Essence,” featuring Tems, from Made in Lagos became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2021, he won his first Grammy for the “Brown Skin Girl” music video. More recently, his latest album, Morayo, came out on 22 November 2024.
Why Abuja fans are hyped
First, access. Not everybody can fly or drive down to Lagos every December. A festival setting at Eagle Square gives fans who rarely make the trip to Lagos a real shot at seeing him close to home.
Second, the timing. Wizkid appears on the opening night of the Detty December Fest in Lagos on 18 December, so Abuja gets him first.
Third, venue. Eagle Square is a landmark. It’s where President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023. Now it’s about to host a very different kind of crowd.
A look back: Wizkid’s last Nigerian homecoming
If you want a preview of the energy, look at last December. On 28 December 2025, Wizkid headlined his “GOAT: The Greatest of All Time Experience” at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, drawing tens of thousands of fans. Tickets sold out shortly after they went live.
The production was huge. The stage stood 100 feet tall. The set was career-spanning, with fans singing along to “Ojuelegba,” “Show You the Money” and “Money Constant.” Artiest who performed included Tiwa Savage and Young Jonn. The next night, he made a surprise appearance at Gunna’s Detty December Fest show. The lesson for Abuja? EXPECT SURPRISES!
What fans can expect on the night
Expect a career-spanning set with classics and newer songs. Expect open-air sing-alongs, because with Wizkid’s catalogue, even people who don’t know the words will find themselves singing the chorus.
As for performances, nothing has been confirmed yet. But as usual, expect the very best A list appearance and a surreal energy from “the big WIZ” himself.
More details about the lineup and additional performers are expected closer to the date. SO, hang tight!
